Vinyl flooring usually has preserve its common presentation, such as single in rolls of large sheets, however time also has reward vinyl in matters of style and nowadays vinyl flooring is available in more practical, much easier to setting up formats.

At Finish Build vinyl flooring tiles are always recommended for commercial uses. Due to the lack of weight FinishBuild vinyl flooring products are usually purchased in 12-inch squares that feature adhesive backing. The thicker the tile is, the better it will hold up over longer periods of time, but what we really think it is important is the acoustic properties this material owns. Installing tile is an ideal project for DIY eagers, particularly in smaller rooms or in this case fashion shows ramp.

Nevertheless, it is important to purchase all tiles from the same lot because, while other lots may be labeled as being the same pattern and color, slight differences in shade may occur. When it comes about setting your chalk lines, starting in the center of the room is what we usually recommend. After removing paper backing, press tiles into place. Keep into account that trimming your tiles at the walls and other edges. Subsequently we suggest you to roll tiles in both directions to set them steady.

What FinishBuild recommends:

3 300x300 How to Make a Proper Vinyl Flooring DIY InstallationWhen it comes to installing vinyl planks, let me tell you is perfectly doable. Since vinyl flooring planks come with an easy interlocking system, you can easily jump on the journey of actually doing it yourself. At FinishBuild we are here, once again, with the purpose of helping you on do the first moves.

First of all let’s clean the room. Before starting, empty your room of all furniture and make sure that the surface of the room is perfectly smooth by removing nails, debris and scraping up any old adhesive. Take into account that your sub floor needs to be dry as well as be smooth and as even possible because every lump, bump and crease may appear visible. Make a template of the floor using felt paper.

Materials you would use:

  1. Pencil
  2. Tape measure
  3. Hammer
  4. Vinyl cutting knife
  5. Sealant
  6. Broom

6 1 300x300 How to Make a Proper Vinyl Flooring DIY InstallationPhase 1:

Once we have a clean surface, there is an important move you should definitely consider if you are aiming for outstanding results: Level your subfloor, generally vinyl planks flooring products can be install onto existed flooring surfaces. Therefore check the condition of your subfloor, if a surface is in poor conditions, you may need to substitute it. You can drill in a plywood underlayment with screws fairly easily, nevertheless it is important to screw heads below the surface of the wood. If you install an underlayment over your existing subfloor, make sure the surface is level. Afterwards, sealing is our next step. Paint a coat of sealant onto your subfloor. Protect the bottom of your walls or cabinets with strips of masking tape to avoid splash. Once the floor is sealed, let it cure for as long as required before you start laying your vinyl planks.

Phase 2:

Now is time for you to make an important choice. Decide on which direction you will lay your vinyl planks. Subsequently, measure the floor to work out where the middle of your middle row will sit. This is your middle line. In order to be double extra sure, I personally suggest (and if you have the time) to face vinyl planks on the floor to get a clear idea of how can tiles adjust to the space. This also can help you to get a visual plus of the vinyl planks you might have to cut in order to fit edges. Next, hammer a nail at each end of this line and then tie a string chalk line between them. Snap your string chalk line to mark your center line on the floor.

Now proceed to set each plank by laying the first row of vinyl plank flooring, whether is by peeling them off on the back for each plank (in the case they are the adhesive type) or by assemble them if they come with the interlocking system. Subsequently flatten them it into place, over the top of the center line and remember that each vinyl plank has a directional arrow on its backing paper. At FinishBuild we strongly suggest that in order to obtain the finest visual result, lay all your planks facing the same way.

Lay the second row of vinyl plank flooring next to the first. Stagger the second row so the end of each plank lines up with the middle of the plank in the previous row. When laying the third row of planks, use your combination square to make sure its joins line up with the joins in the first row and try to maintain this staggered pattern going the whole way across the floor.

Phase 3:

pros and cons of vinyl flooring destacada 8 300x300 How to Make a Proper Vinyl Flooring DIY InstallationOn this phase you must let go the extra vinyl material. Some of your vinyl floor planks will need to be trimmed to fit around the floor corners. Take into account that in phase 2 you can be aware of how much material is not going to be longer needed however, this phase allows you to measure and mark out your lines on each plank and make your cuts with a trimming knife. In order to get finest results, go over the cut line two or three times instead of trying to cut all at once. When your trim is finished, remove the backing paper and stick the plank in place hoping for the best. We recommend you (in case you have adhesive type) to curve and bend the board as you lay it down, visualize that when installing part of the vinyl plank would be against the floor while the part yet to be placed is in the air. Successively, roll the board down and onto the surface of your floor. The aim with this procedure is to avoid the development of air pockets, however you can also help yourself with a piece of fabric on your hand to press the boards to the ground.

To sum up, after installation, clean adhesive from tile surfaces with wet cloth. Fasten trim and moldings to the wall, not the flooring. In addition, avoid heavy traffic on the new installation for at least 72 hours while adhesive sets. Regarding sport items you regularly used, we suggest you to place them close to the garage door. Purpose defeat any other argumentation in garage organization systems, therefore in the case of rarely used items try to place them in spots where you rarely look, the highest-to-reach is a good example.

In the Garage, items you use together should be side by side. In order for you to find them without losing time, items such as gardening tools and lawn chemicals, should be stored close to one another, same situation with nails, hammer and carpentry tools.

In the case of bulky equipment such as lawnmowers, wheelbarrow and ladders, try to locate them in corners, where they can stay steady and protect you in case of being bumped or knocked over by your car.

What FinishBuild staff recommends

When it comes to your garage, our number one advice is: avoid items on the floor whenever possible. Since this area regularly provides shelter to your car, you might not want to be way-crowded in case of emergency. Subsequently, you might be surprise on how much freedom and positive aspects can you get from a free path. pros and cons of vinyl flooring destacada 8 300x300 DIY Garage Ideas: Genious Item Organization

Regarding flooring garage products, we consider that it does not have to be focused on a particularly chic look but a more serene and functional base, for this reason FinishBuild suggests you to try with a more neutral and long lasting material such as sealed concrete floor that can be also colored with some covering products like epoxy painting. In addition, we believe that an extra safety measures are never overrated for these kind of areas, therefore some vinyl sheet to protect high traffic areas can also enhance your household garage.

On the other hand, is highly recommendable not only to seal properly you garage foundations but also any other area that might cause you a future air or water leakage. On this way you might definitely be adding some extra safety measure on minimizing the danger of contaminants such as car drain, paint, solvents or gardening supplies toward other area inside the house or into conditioned spaces.

Set proper illumination:

Garages should be able to provide you a suitable illumination atmosphere in order to allow you to find items you need, or even to provide you a time to time work area. FinishBuild suggest to add white lighting, opt for 4-foot fluorescent light bulbs which work well in cold temps. On the other hand incandescent bulbs are also another options in which you can find the halogen and xenon bulb types. These kinds provide a more focused lighting than fluorescents are highly useful for detailed projects. Even though Halogens produce the brightest most focused light also generate the most heat, therefore we suggest you to consider which is best for you.

Garage would probably not be one of your gathering room first option, this is why FinishBuild encourages you to take advantage of upper space around explore to install some drill shelving units around your upper garage area. In addition, also keep into account that ceiling is an unlimited spot for hanging long, flat items you do not use every day, such as ladders and seasonal sports gear. Thus, make sure that any shelves you hang from the ceiling don’t interfere with your garage door’s operation and that there is enough clearance to avoid scraping the roof of your car.

For easy and quick storage, we advise you to purchase stackable clear-plastic bins with covers, they not only will help you to gather small handy tools but also help you to maintain them dry and ready to go. Try label them in order for you to keep a control of what you own. These clear jars are available in different sizes for sorting hardware and small items. However do not get to excited, buy just the amount you think your garage require, remember that plastics have a wicked influence on Mother Earth. On the other hand, if you aim for privacy, lockable cabinets are also a good choice for storing chemicals products and other items you want to avoid to your kids to get into.

Open Shelves:

When choosing storage units, you have the last verdict. Open shelves are another viable options for those who prefer direct access to tools and any other items in the garage. These shelves are less expensive, and the absence of swinging doors allow you to scan what you have stored. For some users cabinets with doors give the excuse to stay disorganized because you can hide the evidence, which might apply for some, in any of the cases it is a matter of preference.

Tool hanger:

For the DIY’s, a tool hanger is the best option for men who are always using carpentry or engine tools on their daily basis, subsequently we suggest plywood drilled structure to hang tools for more accessible and comfortable work.

Adjust big items to the wall:

Even thought we might think of endless solutions to avoid items around your garage, there are some that just not would be able to hide. In the case of well-proportioned items, we suggest to gather wheelbarrows, ladders, and any other big items and even hang them on the wall instead of leaving it on the floor. It does not have to be suspended, with the use of some plumbing hooks screwed to the wall (1-1/2-in. hooks) you can attached them to the wall to maintain them steady.Be wise and drill a pilot hole and then drive in the screw hook to hold the wheelbarrow upright. To release the wheelbarrow, just turn the hook.

Care is equal to love:

Last but no least. Break-ins are common, therefore secure the entry door with a dead bolt and keep garage windows locked. And no matter how short periods you might think you would be away of your garage door, always close it. From being a kitchen countertop material to one of the top selling flooring products in the market, laminate flooring has definitely arrived to stay. Pergo is a famous Swedish chemical and lamination company which in the early 1920s had a leading role in the development of lamination; they started creating very durable laminate countertops that were able to resist both scratches and moisture. To give you wider knowledge about lamination, from FinishBuild we would like to share that this is a composed of many layers process, they are all held together with glue or resin and then cured with heat or pressure. Once this process is done, the result is a new material that is stronger than each of its components.

Over time, in Pergo they discovered that there were a considerable amount of leftover materials, so thanks to researches and a few modifications in the lamination process, laminate flooring was born in 1977 and this is the reason why this famous type of flooring owns its name to its creator (Pergo). As you might know, there are several factors we can attribute to this amazing flooring material; all of them contribute to its popularity but do you know how to compare different laminate flooring? Today we would like to help you to carefully compare the features of laminate flooring, in order to know their differences and therefore you can opt for the best laminate flooring for your home.

The way laminate flooring fits together is a determining factor you need to pay attention to, in order to know whether the floor will hold up well once installed. To make sure of this, place the tongue of one piece into the grove of another one and snap the pieces together; then you should run your hand along the seam and if you can feel a ledge where the seams meets, this means the connection is faulty so that is not the laminate flooring connectivity you need. Moreover, the thicker the tongues, the thicker they should fit. The importance of a tight fit is that prevents moisture from seeping into seams and also do not allow the pieces from unlocking and popping up once they are installed.

Main Materials

Composite material is the core of this type of flooring product. To know the different core material in your potential laminates, you should examine their density by cutting a sample piece in half, then you can compare the thickness of the core with the core of any other sample you are considering as your potential choice. When it comes to the core materials of your laminate flooring, the denser the core, the better holds up to all that daily abuse.

The backing of laminate floor is generally melamine, which is designed to prevent moisture from soaking through to the subfloor. They way you can test the melamine backing of a piece of laminate is by scratching the backing, and then spraying it with water; if the backing sloughs off the sample immediately after, then this definitely means is an inferior piece of flooring. Regarding backing, the thicker the layer of melamine, the stronger the moisture barrier.

Wear Layer

Aluminum oxide (a tremendously hard substance) is the principal component of the wear layer in laminate flooring. There are laminate flooring brands that feature wear of layers between AC1 and AC4, where AC1 is the weakest and AC4 is the strongest. You might want to opt for a floor with an AC3 or Ac4 durability rating.

Laminate flooring have the great advantage of making look almost any underfoot surface identical to other type of floor; this is a product which is meant to represent, whether wood, tile or concrete. To make sure your potential laminate flooring will perform at its best, examine it under different lighting conditions so you can have an idea of how will look during the different times of the day. When you count on a thicker texture, you are also making your floor slip resistant, and this is a very important consideration for entryways and kitchens.

Lifetime warranties that fully cover defects will be the best choice you can make. Damages like stains, wear and fading or surface water damage are the most common issues you might face with laminate flooring; so in case a laminate floor lifetime warranty is out of your budget, the good news is that there are many brands that offer 15 years warranties and this is a considerable period of time for you to enjoy good quality laminate flooring. There are manufacturers that typically do not cover scratches, poor maintenance, excessive water damage or wrong installations so read the fine print in order to avoid unpleasant situations regarding those defects that some manufacturers are not going to cover once you purchase and install your laminate flooring.

Laminate flooring has notoriously gained popularity since it was first created in the early 1920s, nowadays a multitude manufacturers make claim about the durability and wear tolerance of such an amazing flooring material, and these manufacturers are beautifully creating laminate flooring that resemble wood, stone, tile and more. However not all laminate floors are created equally, for instance more expensive laminates are made of quality materials while cheaper laminate floors lack elements that increase durability. Our best piece of advice on this matter would be to explore the variety of price points and high quality in accordance with your budget. In FinishBuild we believe that the progression laminated material has made from countertop to resistant and easy to clean planks that has been named Pergo is a natural transition, that makes it one of the best, most durable, as well as most affordable flooring product which has begun to make its mark on the human standard living.

elevators on 2016 go upper with viny 1 300x300 Elevator flooring options: On 2018 Go Upper with VinylHave you ever think about the looks of an elevator? Do you actually remember how the floor looked like? Are you looking for elevator flooring options? According to Livescience, the reason why we forget small details relays on the act of actually crossing a door, or in this case, getting out of the elevator. Short-term memory failure is due to the doorway. The very act of walking through a doorway may hint to the brain that a new scene has started and it should store prior memories away, thereby causing strange memory lapses.

From bright to dark, from colorful to dusk, elevators offer a small waiting time while you reach your high. A few theories affirm that elevators began as simple rope or chain hoists but generally speaking an elevator is essentially a platform that is either pulled or pushed up by a mechanical means. Today elevators consist of a cab or a cage mounted on a platform within an enclosed space called a shaft or sometimes a “hoistway”.

No doubt this is one of the most magnificent creations by humankind. But when it comes to flooring style, what is the first that comes to your mind? There are plenty of options but it might all depend on the type of building you own. For example, the chances of finding carpet on a mall elevator are almost none or porcelain on an industrial cage. While some vinyl products allow you to place the material over old flooring, others require you to install it directly on top of the subfloor or underlayment. The reason why we bet for vinyl products is the weight and the versatility on appearance. Since commercial, passenger or even residential elevators can come on different sizes, and vinyl installation might cross with uneven floors, we suggest placing vinyl on underlayment products.

Vinyl flooring is well known by its reputation of softness and warmness. Finish Build vinyl flooring is comfortable for your feet and is warmer than natural surfaces such as wood or ceramic.Additionally, for commercial purposes, vinyl tiles or sheets provide some sound isolation which absorbs impact noise and sound, which become very handy on elevators.

Easy to sweep and vacuuming Finish Build vinyl floors might just need mopping with warm water and slight detergent to provide a more thorough cleaning.

While vertical space does not support squeezing in an extra seat, drawing the eye upward does benefit your living room area in order to give the impression that your room is far larger and majestic than it actually is.

Work with your walls

In the case you are into art, music or into any particular geek collection, we encourage you to show it. Nothing describes you more than personal items you truly love. Therefore, fill that vertical space with an electrifying art gallery.

rectified porcelain tiles for a living room 4 300x300 Rectified Porcelain Tiles for a living roomCorner sofa. If you have a small corner living room space, sometimes going with the largest piece of furniture possible can actually make it feel bigger. A generously sized corner sofa for instance, is comfortable and able to seat loads of people and since it reads as just one piece, it helps the room feel uncluttered. A modern corner sofa with clean, straight lines works better in a small space than an overstuffed version.

Petite sofa. You might want to take into account a slimmed-down love seat or a petite sofa on for size instead. Choose one with clean lines and exposed legs for the airiest look. A small sofa floats in the middle of this open-plan space, facing a media center on the wall. One armchair and an upholstered ottoman (that can double as an extra seat) round out the group. Seats: three or four.

Try a backless sofa. In an not built up space, sometimes the best position for the sofa is not on the wall but in the middle of the room, which can really gobble up your space. A backless sofa is a very chic alternative and can be used from both sides, meaning a bonus when seating because options are endless. And if you want to use it in a larger room someday, it can act as a divider between two seating areas.

Or Bounce the sofa. Who says a living room has to require a couch at all? If your space is tight, try rotating two or four armchairs around a coffee table as an alternative. For multifunctional area, make the coffee table a tray-topped ottoman that can be used as a seat, or add a couple of poufs to chill on a cozy place.

Nature elements

rectified porcelain tiles for a living room 2 300x300 Rectified Porcelain Tiles for a living roomFinishBuild is a very enthusiastic on adding nature elements. We believe that the more you and your love ones are in contact with natural surroundings the happier you will be.  Mother Nature is a wonderful and delightful manner to add resonance to a living room. Lush greenery softens corners and fools the eye into thinking there is more to the room than there really is. Plants are especially effective in corners and beside or behind sofas.

Multifunctional furniture

FinishBuild is always supporting multifunctional spaces, consequently nesting side tables that can be moved around as needed are a virtuous idea. Another suggestion might be wall to storage. A floor-to-ceiling storage wall can be customized to contain from books, ornament figures and even a media center. Pull-down desks is very common, in order to safe space and combine activities on the same area.

Go Crystal. To add a more elegant but chic look to your living room area, glass or acrylic are wonderful materials to use in a living room, because they take up zero visual space. Try a coffee table or with crystal look in one of these corners to share a cup of tea or why not you might have lunch there too.

A Fireplace on the living room?

rectified porcelain tiles for a living room 5 300x300 Rectified Porcelain Tiles for a living roomFinish Build staff definitely recommends adding low seats can actually make the fireplace area look more inviting. Another suitable option can be 2 or 3 poufs on a colorful rug to make it more intimate. A pair of small backless seats, in front of the fireplace in the living room to sneak in some extra seating without blocking the room’s prime point.

Finish Build staff hopes that this general tips would have been useful for your current project or your start-over operation. Mandy Hale, once said that happiness is an inside job. Therefore, do not assign anyone else that much power over your life. May your spaces reflect what make you feel happy. You start…we Finish!

Repairing vinyl flooring

Accidents on any type of flooring are very common, and when it comes about vinyl surfaces there is no need to replace a whole plank or sheet just because it Is sustained some damage; instead of thisuse a scrap piece of the flooring material and install a “patch” which is practically undetectable.

Cut the vinyl piece

In this step you will need to cut a piece of scrap vinyl that matches the pattern around damaged vinyl. This piece should be longer and wider than the pattern around the damaged area.

Use adhesive tape in the scrap vinyl

Make the pattern of the scrap vinyl and the vinyl on the floor match, and tape the pattern down with duct tape; be sure the tape holds the piece firmly, however do not cover the pattern around the damaged area.

Cut the lines of the pattern

In this step we recommend you to use a straightedge and a sharp utility knife, and then cut along the lines of the patterns. Hold the utility knife straight up and down, cut along the break of the line rather than the center of the pattern line. Next, score the vinyl and press securely so the blade goes through the patch and the flooring vinyl.

Take out the damaged vinyl piece

Once you cut out the pattern, remove the tape and take out the damaged vinyl. To break the vinyl away from the adhesive you can use a putty knife.

Dry fit vinyl patch

Make sure to clean off the old adhesive and dry fit the patch; for this step use the utility knife to trim the patch where necessary and bevel the bottom edges.

Apply the vinyl floor adhesive

You can use the putty knife in order to applya coat vinyl floor adhesive to the floor.

Put the vinyl patch into place

Achieve this, press the patch into place; after that clean the seams with damp rag and lay a heavy object on the patch, so the drying time of the adhesive is properly achieved.

Mix a vinyl seam sealer

Once the adhesive dried, clean the patch’s seam and mix a vinyl seam sealer; sealer will melt the seam and so it will blend in with the rest of the floor.

As you could read vinyl is a very useful and adaptable material; it can be installed over concrete, wood or existing flooring. This durable flooring option stands up to moisture and it also  provides a broad range of natural designs, from realistic wood grains to elegant stones. Thanks to the important improvements vinyl manufacturers are showing, thinking of vinyl as your flooring option can make you imagine there are an endless design ideas to choose from.
