Dining Room Furniture by Finishbuild
When considering a dining room, eating area I prefer, we have to reflect first on our way of life, this is a very important aspect that will define the design of our home.
I have seen many houses, in which they have a dining room, which is not used, or at least once a year. They have spent a lot to furnish that space, not to mention the space itself. And they have another space to eat, small, almost always with much cheaper furniture ... and used every day.
It is a space to live together. The hostess will not feel isolated from the rest of the guests. And unless we are personalities of high standing, when we invite someone to our house, it is because we have confidence to eat in our lovely kitchen. And we do not occupy the room, with another table that we will use very little.
Another issue is that we have guests frequently in our house and we have to have a space reserved for a certain number of guests. Of course this will be in line with the size of our home.
If possible, we will have the table that most suits the most frequent number of guests (10 for example), with 10 chairs. Do not buy extra chairs for the dining room, unless you can store them. It makes ugly dining chairs out there. Better to use auxiliaries. They can always be more or less. With an extendable table, it will suffice. There are tables on the market that are not at all perceived to be of this type.
A dining table, should never measure less than 0.90 in width, so that a tray fit well. But we are talking about kitchen tables. And long, so that two chairs comfortably enter, you have to measure a minimum of 1.40, from up there. We already know a lot of minimalism, but the tables, the sofas, the dishes ... how much bigger, better!!
In apartments with very little space, instead of consecrating a really uncomfortable and small space, where to be moving the table and chairs every time we want to eat ... why not put a coffee table higher than established (instead of 0.45 to 0.70) and a little bigger, that makes us both functions.
In all cases, a lamp (or several) is very well on the table. Everything will depend on the shape of the table, whether it is square or round will be one, and if it is rectangular, there may be several.
# 1 Style vs. Functionality
The first decision you have to make about dining room furniture is if you want them to fulfill a function of style or practice. Is it more important that the pieces you choose look good, or fit the lifestyle needs of your family?
The furniture you choose for the dining room will depend largely on the overall style of your house or apartment, and whether you have a separate dining room or is part of the room.
# 2 Separate Dining Room
If you have a house with a separate dining room, chances are this is not a room used every day. It is also likely that this is not a new home or an economic one, but a luxury home or apartment.
Therefore, it would not be a good idea to spoil the effect of a stylish environment with cheap furniture. Think of hardwood furniture and upholstery of fine fabrics or leather for a traditional home, or glass and steel for a modern and chic apartment.
Incorporating genuine antiques will work well in both areas, and if you can not afford furniture from a renowned contemporary designer, consider buying dining furniture that will in the future become a family heirloom. They are not just furniture, it is an investment.
# 3 Integrated Dining Room
At the other end of the scale is the integrated dining room, ideal for a busy young family, with an open plan living room and dining space.
The dining table may have to endure three or even four meals each day, plus provide a surface to do homework, craft projects, family games and home office.
This table will be the epicenter of family life, so it is not the place for modern designer furniture or expensive antique furniture. Choose something easy to care for, with no luxury trim that will only serve to gather dust.
Dark wood not only highlights dust but also every small scratch, so if you choose wood furniture, opt for a light color. The light rustic furniture is cheap and cheerful, as well as surprisingly elegant and almost indestructible.
# 4 Dining Room Furniture Materials
Of course, wood is not the only option. Another sturdy choice of dining room furniture material is chrome, or a table with metal frame and a ceramic lid and upholstered vinyl chairs. Glass tables are suitable for a couple with no children, but are not recommended for a family.
# 5 Details Before you make a final decision
There are other details you should consider, for example: How many times will the chairs be dragged to sit down, scraping the surface of the dining room floor? By answering this you will know what kind of chair legs are best (metal, wood, plastic) and whether you should place a carpet to protect the floors.
Are your family members particularly tall or short? Dining games come in a variety of heights, so you probably prefer to opt for something in between that will make everyone, including guests, feel comfortable.
How many people sit at table each day? If you have guests only occasionally, consider buying an adjustable table that can be extended when needed, and you will save extra space.
Finally, never buy a dining table, or any other furniture, without checking or measuring all dimensions and make sure you will pass through all the necessary doors until you reach the dining room. Following these tips to choose the perfect furniture for the dining room, you will make every coin count, making sure you select furniture that you will not regret.
